We design identities that speak authentically connecting aesthetics, meaning, and strategy into one voice.
Multi-week facilitator certifications that turn each book's framework into something a group can live through.
Shorter, focused sessions for organizations that want the framework without a full facilitator commitment.
Every program exists to reach the young people, families, and workplaces the books were written for in the first place.
A facilitator program for young adults, built from the three-book series on listening, healing, and choosing what we pass on.
A workshop and training track for employers and teams, adapted from the Mental Health in the Workplace series.
A facilitator program adapted from the Hitting Rock Bottom series, for groups supporting people through crisis and recovery.
Carry Forward Learning Institute is the home of Marguerite J. Joseph’s books, facilitator training, and community workshops. The Institute takes learning developed through more than 30 years of experience in social care and community development across the Caribbean and turns it into practical learning experiences that others can carry forward.
Our work is centred on four areas: Books. Training. Workshops. Impact.
Our work begins with lived and professional experience.
Rather than starting with theory alone, the Institute builds on the lessons, insights, and frameworks found in Marguerite J. Joseph’s writing and develops them into experiences that people can explore together.
The aim is not simply to read about an idea, but to create opportunities for conversation, reflection, learning, and practical application.
A facilitator program takes the framework of one of Marguerite J. Joseph’s books or book series and develops it into a structured learning experience that can be facilitated with a group.
Facilitator training prepares participants to understand the material and guide others through the conversations and learning experiences connected to it.
These are multi-week training programs designed to help facilitators carry the work into the communities and organizations they serve.
The Institute is developing its facilitator programs for people who want to bring meaningful learning into their communities and organizations.
This may include community leaders, educators, facilitators, practitioners, and organizations looking for structured ways to engage people around the themes explored in the books.
Because each program is developed for a particular audience and subject area, the intended participants may vary from one program to another.
Words We Carry is the Institute’s current facilitator program.
It is based on Marguerite J. Joseph’s three-book Words We Carry series and is designed around themes of listening, healing, and choosing what we pass on.
The program is intended to create a facilitator-led experience for young adults and the communities that support them.
“What stood out to me was how practical the training was. We were not simply learning the content of a book; we were learning how to guide real conversations around experiences that can be difficult to talk about.”
“The material felt relevant to the realities people are living. The training helped me see how the ideas in Words We Carry can move from the page into conversations with young adults, families, and communities.”
“I feel more confident about facilitating a group because the programme gave us a clear framework without making the process feel scripted. There is structure, but there is also room for each group to bring its own experiences into the conversation.”
The Words We Carry facilitator training gave me practical tools, confidence and a clear structure for guiding meaningful conversations. I now feel prepared to create safe, reflective spaces where participants can learn, share and grow.
Becoming a Words We Carry facilitator has strengthened both my professional practice and personal awareness. The training was engaging, thoughtful and practical, equipping me to support honest conversations, reflection and positive change within my community.
